channelAustin Closes for Transition

The new hours of operation will go into effect October 3, 2011.

Why October 3 - and not October 1 - you ask?

The answer is that everything new will begin Monday, October 3.

In order to prepare for the transition, including the first phase of automated self service, channelAustin will close the previous week, from Monday, September 26 until our new time to re-open Monday, October 3. We are also considering a new day and time for orientation - so please let us know what you think.

Calling All mediaArtists

Let's use our skills to help the community. Create content about the recent wildfires and we will air it on channelAustin. Tell a personal story or put the word out to the community about where to donate, how to volunteer, etc. If you submit content about the wildfires then please let us know on the cablecast agreement and we will schedule your video ASAP.

Avid Demo

Join us for networking and refreshments Thursday, Sept 29, at 6:00 p.m., and an Avid demo beginning at 6:30 p.m. Texas Media Systems will give away one certificate worth $250 for rental equipment. Staff from the Chicago Avid offices will give away a copy of Media Composer v5.5 valued at $3,000.

Reception Hours

Due to an unforeseen circumstance, channelAustin must change staff hours for Reception.

A staff person will not be available after 4:30 PM to make an equipment or studio reservation.

Hours when you may speak to staff to make a reservation are:
• Monday (phone only): 1:00 to 4:30 PM
• Tuesday to Friday (phone or in person): Noon to 4:30 PM

If you wish to make a reservation after 4:30 PM, please leave a voicemail message at 478-4700, Ext. 10, and your reservation will be confirmed the next morning.

Also, please note Orientation will not be given in September, and will start again on October 3rd, and the new and improved October Training schedule will be released on-line at that time.

Labor Day Closure

channelAustin will be closed on Monday, September 5, 2011, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Producer Forum on August 9th @ 7:00 PM

channelAustin invites all producers and community folks to join staff to discuss the current and future status of community media and public access in Austin. We will discuss the new contract and ask for input concerning such issues as:

- hours of operations

- policies and procedures

- training needs

- technical support

- resources and equipment needs

- membership levels and benefits
